Both Bangladesh and India are in a positive position regarding the resumption of passenger train services between the two countries, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam. He said discussions are ongoing between the two sides on the matter.

He made the remarks to journalists after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at the Secretariat on Tuesday, September 8.

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi said good news regarding the Maitree Express could come soon. He said the date from which the train will resume operations would also be determined shortly. He commented that this would be great news for the people of both countries.

Trivedi also said both countries are considering reducing the travel time of the Maitree Express.

On bilateral trade relations, the Road Minister said despite various adversities, trade relations between the two countries have not diminished but rather doubled.

When asked by journalists about how convicted fugitive Sheikh Hasina is engaging in politics while in India, the Indian High Commissioner avoided making any comment.
