Bangladesh-India relations to be based on mutual respect: Rizvi
Relations between Bangladesh and India will be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and equality, said Prime Minister's Political Adviser and BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Wednesday (August 19). Rizvi was there with leaders and activists of the party's volunteer wing on the occasion of the 46th founding anniversary of the Swechchhasebak Dal .
On relations with India, Rizvi said if India extends a hand of friendship in a cooperative manner without any vested interests, Bangladesh will welcome it. However, Bangladesh will not compromise on any issue that conflicts with the country's interests .
He said Bangladesh believes in a firm stance on issues of independence and sovereignty. Relations between the two countries must be such that the dignity and interests of both sides are equally considered. The BNP government will not accept any relationship beyond that, he added .
Rizvi expressed hope that Swechchhasebak Dal leaders and activists would remain active in the field to convey the government's various public welfare activities to the common people in implementing the promises made in the BNP's election manifesto.
He also said BNP leaders and activists would work unitedly to counter any conspiracy or political and administrative obstacles against the country.
Swechchhasebak Dal President S M Jilani, General Secretary Rajib Ahsan and leaders and activists from various levels of the organisation were present during the tribute.
