Bangladeshis aware, propaganda won’t sway public: Information Adviser
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said the people of Bangladesh are aware and propaganda campaigns will have no impact, urging citizens to participate in the upcoming referendum to vote ‘Yes’ if they desire reform and change.
She made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday (January 15).
Rizwana reiterated the government’s position, explaining that authorities have clearly communicated the benefits of a ‘Yes’ vote as well as the consequences of a ‘No’ vote. “If anyone chooses to campaign against the vote, that is a party decision, and no one will be prevented from doing so,” she said.
Addressing concerns over the election timeline, Hasan confirmed, “As I have said before, and I say again, the election will be held on February 12, Inshallah. Attempts are being made to create confusion, suggesting the election will not take place or raising fears about law and order. These are baseless tactics.”
On allegations regarding a level playing field, she said, “It is impossible that no complaints will arise. If someone believes there is disruption in their area, they can report it to the Election Commission, which has legal provisions to address such issues. Not all 300 constituencies have the same complaints; if problems occur in one or two areas, the Election Commission will provide remedies. Only if redress is not given after reporting can it become a matter of concern.”
Hasan emphasised that Bangladeshis are conscious and will exercise their right to participate in both the general election and the referendum to determine their leaders and shape the country’s future.
