Banks to remain open in industrial areas for 3 days during Eid holidays
Government officials and employees will be given a holiday from June 5 to 14 on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. However, some bank branches will remain open in limited areas for three days during the Eid holidays.
Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (May 25) issued a directive in this regard.
According to it, before the upcoming Eid, bank branches will remain open in limited areas on June 5 (Thursday) to facilitate the sale of export bills by various organizations related to the ready-made garment industry and the payment of salaries, bonuses and other allowances to workers and employees working in this industry.
On these days, transactions in the garment industry located in the industrial-intensive Dhaka Metropolitan City, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chittagong areas will be conducted in the branches of commercial banks in the relevant areas from 10 am to 2 pm.
However, the banks will remain open until 4 pm. The rest of the time, the bank's post-transaction ancillary activities will be conducted.
In addition, for the purpose of carrying out important and foreign transactions of import and export-oriented industrial institutions or customers including pharmaceuticals, industrial sectors, the Authorized Dealer (AD) branches in Dhaka, Chittagong and other important commercial areas will remain open on a limited basis at the discretion of the bank on the public holidays of June 11 (Tuesday) and June 12 (Wednesday).
Transactions will be conducted in the branches of commercial banks from 10 am to 2 pm on these two days and post-transaction ancillary activities will be conducted until 4 pm.
The directive further states that officers and employees performing duties on holidays will be entitled to allowances as per the rules.
Bangladesh Bank has issued this directive in the public interest under the powers conferred by Section 45 of the Bank Companies Act, 1991.
