Banned Chhatra League stages silent vigil with six demands at DUCSU

  1. Leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League held a silent vigil in front of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union building during the Eid holidays, presenting a six-point charter of demands.

    The silent programme was held at 8:00 am on Monday, June 1. After the programme, the organisation issued a written statement outlining their demands and positions on various issues.

    The six demands include
    1. Withdrawal of expulsion orders and cases filed against Chhatra League students across the country
    2. Unconditional release of arrested Chhatra League leaders and activists, stopping 'shown arrests'
    3. Ensuring trial of those accused of embezzling measles vaccine funds and child deaths
    4. Exemplary punishment for murderers, rapists, child abusers and those who harass women online
    5. Stopping partisan recruitment through illegal notifications after the quota movement
    6. Restoring teachers' dignity by bringing those involved in teacher harassment to justice

    The written statement also raised allegations against former interim government chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus regarding the measles outbreak and child deaths across the country, and demanded his execution.

    Present at the vigil were Dhaka University unit Chhatra League leaders including Sheikh Mohammad Naeem, Shibli Sadiq, Rajib Zaman, Muhibul Islam, Sabbir Hossain Khoka and Imran Hossain, among others.
