Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain assumes charge as CID Chief

Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain has formally assumed charge as the chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police.

He took over the responsibility at a ceremony held at the CID headquarters in the capital's Malibagh on Wednesday (July 29), according to a press release signed by CID Special Superintendent of Police (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan.

Senior CID officials, including deputy inspectors general (DIGs), additional DIGs, superintendents of police (SPs) and additional SPs, attended the ceremony and welcomed the newly appointed CID chief, wishing him success in his new role.

Barrister Mosharraf was appointed as CID chief through a notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 28, as part of a reshuffle involving 21 senior police officers.

Prior to his new assignment, he served on deputation as Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), where he was promoted to the rank of Additional IGP.

A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre, Barrister Mosharraf joined Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1995.

During his nearly three-decade career, he has served in the CID, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Headquarters, and various police ranges and districts across the country. He has also been involved in training, research and curriculum development at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah.

Academically, he holds a master's degree in Economics from Islamic University, Kushtia, and later completed the Bar-at-Law from City University of London in the United Kingdom. He has also received specialised training in forensic science, criminal investigation, intelligence operations and modern policing, participating in numerous national and international workshops and conferences.

Officials expressed hope that his extensive experience in policing and criminal investigations would further strengthen and modernise the CID's investigative capabilities.
