Barrister Shafique Ahmed to be buried in Azimpur

Former law minister, eminent jurist Barrister Shafique Ahmed will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard after two funeral prayers at the Supreme Court premises and Indira Road in Farmgate.

Shafique Ahmed died while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital in the capital on Sunday afternoon after a long illness. He was 89 years old at the time of his death.

The deceased's son, Barrister Mahbub Shafique, said the first funeral prayer for Shafique Ahmed will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 13, at the Indira Road playground in Farmgate, near his residence. His coffin will then be taken to the Supreme Court premises, where he worked for a long time. The second funeral prayer will be held there at 1:30 pm.

After the funeral prayers, the coffin will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm for people from all walks of life to pay their respects. He will then be buried at Azimpur Graveyard.

Shafique Ahmed served as Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs from 2009 to 2014 during the Awami League government.

He was a lawyer by profession. He was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association twice, for the terms 1999-2000 and 2008-2009. He also served as vice-president of the Bangladesh Bar Council.

Various political parties and professional organisations have expressed grief over his death, praying for the forgiveness of his departed soul.
