Basanta Utsab in Uttara cancelled amid obstruction
Despite receiving the necessary permits from the Dhaka North City Corporation and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the “National Basanta Utsab Organising Council” has been unable to hold its Basanta Utsab, or spring festival event, in Uttara.
After calling one of the organizers an Awami League ally, they were asked to remove him from the organization, but in the end, the festival could not be held.
Like every year, this time too, the event was supposed to be held at the Bakultala of Dhaka University's Fine Arts and Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka as well as at the open stage in Uttara.
Manzar Chowdhury Sweet, General Secretary of National Basanta Utsab Organising Council, said on Friday morning, "We applied to the Dhaka North City Corporation as per the rules, they also gave us permission. We also paid the rent for the allocated venue. Permission was also obtained from the police. But we could not hold the event there today due to the obstacles of the locals.
This obstacle was mainly led by a person named Emon Rahman Farhad."
