Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blocked the railway line near the Abdul Jabbar intersection on Monday (September 1) to protest an attack on the campus by outsiders and to press six demands.

The blockade forced suspension of all train services on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.

The agitation began with a protest procession from the university’s K.R. Market around 9.00am against the attack and the indefinite closure of the university and halls.

Around 11:30am, the students formally presented their six-point demand. Later, around 4.00pm, they sat on the railway line, chanting slogans in support of their demands.

Md. Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, confirmed that the movement disrupted train services.

The protest follows an emergency meeting of BAU’s Academic Council on Sunday, convened amid unrest among students of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Faculty. The council decided to continue three programmes—Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Combined—but the students rejected the decision, prompting the ongoing agitation.
