BB eases import of 11 essential ahead of Ramadan

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has allowed the import of 11 essential commodities on up to 90 days' credit to ensure smooth supply and reasonable prices during Ramadan.

The Foreign Exchange Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank issued a notification in this regard on Monday (November 11).

"In order to maintain the price at reasonable level and smooth supply of necessary food items during the holy month of Ramadan, it has been decided to allow import of rice, wheat, onion, pulse, edible oil, sugar, egg, chickpea,  pea, spices and dates on usance terms on up to 90 days under supplier's/buyer's credit," it read.

"The benefit will remain valid until March 31 next year," it added.
