Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the appointment of Mostaqur Rahman as Bangladesh Bank governor, replacing Dr Ahsan H Mansur, is part of the normal process following a new government assuming office. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after leaving the Secretariat on Wednesday, February 25. Mostaqur Rahman was appointed as the new governor through a notification issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the Finance Ministry on the day. When asked by journalists about the reason for such a swift change in the governor position, the Finance Minister avoided a direct reply, stating that changes will occur in many other areas as well. He also commented that there is no specific reason behind this.

বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক-এর গভর্নর পদে ড. আহসান এইচ মনসুরকে সরিয়ে মোস্তাকুর রহমানকে নিয়োগ দেওয়া প্রসঙ্গে অর্থমন্ত্রী আমীর খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরী বলেছেন, নতুন সরকার ক্ষমতায় এসেছে—অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই পরিবর্তন আসবে। এটিও সেই স্বাভাবিক প্রক্রিয়ার অংশ। বুধবার (২৫ ফেব্রুয়ারি) সচিবালয় থেকে বের হওয়ার সময় সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। এদিন অর্থ মন্ত্রণালয়ের আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠান বিভাগ থেকে জারি করা এক প্রজ্ঞাপনের মাধ্যমে মোস্তাকুর রহমানকে নতুন গভর্নর হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়। ‘গভর্নর পদে এত দ্রুত পরিবর্তন কেন, এর পেছনে বিশেষ কোনো কারণ আছে কি না’—সাংবাদিকদের এমন প্রশ্নের সরাসরি উত্তর না দিয়ে অর্থমন্ত্রী বলেন, আরও অনেক জায়গায় পরিবর্তন হবে। এর পেছনে বিশেষ কোনো কারণ নেই বলেও তিনি মন্তব্য করেন।
