bdnews24.com Editor Toufique Imrose Khalidi passes away
Toufique Imrose Khalidi, Editor-In-Chief and Publisher of online news portal Bdnews24.com, is no more. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, United Kingdom, on Friday, September 2.
Senior reporter of Bdnews24.com Golam Mortuza Ontu confirmed the information.
Ontu said the Editor-in-Chief had travelled to London a few days ago to consult a doctor. On Thursday night, he reportedly became dizzy and collapsed in his hotel room. He was subsequently taken to a hospital.
He died around 7pm Bangladesh time on Friday. Doctors there said he died due to a brain haemorrhage.
Toufique Imrose Khalidi was a Bangladeshi journalist and media personality. He had been serving as the publisher and chief editor of his own Bangladeshi online news outlet and news agency, Bdnews24.com, since 2006.
Before Bdnews24.com, Khalidi gained experience in journalism at Bangladeshi broadsheet newspapers in the fields of editorial and media management. He also worked at the BBC in the United Kingdom as a presenter, producer and editor. He received training at various educational institutions in Dhaka and in London, Paris and Tokyo.
In 2013, he secured bipartisan support from Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as well as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to bring Bangladesh's ethnic communities into the mainstream society.
Khalidi received the National ICT Award in December 2017 as 'Special Recognition and Honour' for the development of 'Digital Bangladesh'.
A shadow of mourning has descended on the journalism and media sector over the death of Toufique Imrose Khalidi. His colleagues at Bdnews24.com are also in mourning over his death.
