Begum Khaleda Zia is the first freedom fighter of the Liberation War: Minister

Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan has said that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is recognized as the first freedom fighter of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

He stated, 'Our esteemed leader, Begum Khaleda Zia, holds the title of the first freedom fighter of Bangladesh's Liberation War. Throughout her political career, she has consistently guided Bangladesh towards democracy, dedicating her life to advocating for democratic principles through various movements and struggles. She has tirelessly worked towards the development of the nation.'

These comments were made following his tribute to the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and the late Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital on Friday afternoon, March 13.

The Minister of Liberation War remarked, 'After paying my respects at the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, I wish to express that the trust and confidence our Prime Minister has placed in us should be reflected through our sacrifices, dedication, and integrity.'

He added, 'We aspire to manage our ministries effectively as we accompany the Prime Minister on the journey towards a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh that she has initiated.'

Addressing the issue of fraudulent freedom fighters, the Minister noted, 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Liberation War Ministry faces challenges, including the inclusion of many fake freedom fighters during the 18 years of oppressive rule. We are committed to resolving these matters. Additionally, numerous genuine freedom fighters have been wrongfully listed among the Razakars. We will also tackle this issue.'

He further stated, 'Having just assumed this responsibility, I am eager to address these issues one by one with everyone's support, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, with unwavering dedication. I request your cooperation in this endeavor.'
