Begum Khaleda Zia to receive 'Best Indomitable Woman in Advancing Democracy' award
Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia is set to be honoured with the “Best Indomitable Woman in Advancing Democracy (Gonotantra er Ogrojatray Sreshtho Odommo Nari)” award.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs will confer the award on Begum Khaleda Zia at a ceremony on Sunday (March 8) at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium, as part of the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations.
Khaleda Zia is being honoured in recognition of her indomitable leadership in the restoration of democracy through uncompromising struggle and her outstanding contributions to upholding the democratic process in the country.
As in previous years, five women will also be honoured as 'Best Indomitable Women' (Sreshtho Odommo Nari) in five different categories this year.
Nurun Nahar Akter will receive the award in the economic success category, while Most. Bobita Khatun will be honoured in the education and employment category.
Nurbanu Kabir will be awarded in the successful mother category.
Most. Shamla Begum will receive the award for overcoming the trauma of violence and achieving success in life while Most. Afroza Yasmin will be honoured for her remarkable contributions to social development.
