Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has decided to increase jet fuel prices following a surge in international crude oil prices due to Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

A responsible source at BERC said jet fuel prices have been increased by nearly 73 per cent in one go. The decision was made at an emergency meeting on Wednesday, March 18.

For domestic flights, the price per litre of jet fuel has been raised from Tk 112.41 to Tk 194.18, an increase of Tk 81.77 per litre. For international flights, the price per litre has been set at $1.2689, up from $0.7384. The new prices will be effective from midnight on March 18 (March 19).
