BKMEA positive about govt's first six months
The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) does not consider six months sufficient time to fully evaluate the government's performance since taking office. However, the organisation views the steps taken to ease the business environment, support the private sector and revitalise the economy as positive.
In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday (August 18), BKMEA outlined its position on the government's first six months. The association believes more time is needed to see the full results of the government's initiatives.
BKMEA President Mohammad Hatem said six months cannot be considered enough time to evaluate a government's performance. The tangible impact of various decisions taken in such a short period takes time to become visible in the economy and business.
He said the new government has taken several initiatives to ease business processes and restore economic momentum. BKMEA believes these steps can help create a positive environment for the private sector.
According to the association, the government's initiatives need to be implemented consistently to overcome economic stagnation and restore confidence in business and investment. The process of reviving the economy will be accelerated if the private sector's problems are resolved quickly.
BKMEA said if the government takes the business community's real experiences and advice into account in future policymaking and activities, the production, investment and export sectors will be able to move forward more effectively.
