BNP leader Nazrul Islam Khan has reiterated the party’s commitment to running the country inclusively, involving all those who supported BNP in past movements.

Speaking after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner A. M. M. Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission in Agargaon on Sunday, Nazrul said, “BNP’s acting chairman has already expressed the party’s intention to govern the country with everyone who stood by BNP. We are moving forward with this approach.”

Nazrul also clarified that BNP has not yet engaged in any seat-sharing talks with other parties for the upcoming parliamentary elections. “Discussions will start once the election schedule is announced,” he added.

Responding to a claim by an NCP leader that elections would not be held next February, Nazrul said, “Only the person who made that statement can explain his authority. Meanwhile, the government and Election Commission are actively preparing for the elections.”

On the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies, Nazrul noted that only aggrieved individuals, not political parties, can file objections as per the law. “If any irregularities arise, the Election Commission will respond accordingly,” he said.

The Election Commission plans to hold public hearings on constituency boundaries soon and will announce final decisions thereafter.

The meeting also covered election preparations, voting rights for expatriates, and law and order during the polls. Nazrul expressed confidence in the commission’s assurance that security will improve during the election period, with army personnel currently deployed and more ready to be requested if needed.

The Chief Adviser has announced the 13th national election will be held before Ramadan, likely in early February. The Election Commission aims to announce the election schedule by early December.

The BNP delegation included senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and advisor Ismail Jabiullah.
