The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, BNP, has announced a two-day programme to observe the 90th birth anniversary of former president Ziaur Rahman with due respect. Various events will be held across the capital and other parts of the country on January 19 and 20.

The programme was announced at a press conference at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Saturday, January 17, by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

On Monday, January 19, at 11:00am, floral tributes will be placed and fateha will be offered at the grave of martyred president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Banglanagar.

BNP chairperson Tarique Rahman will be present during the grave visit.

Discussion meetings and special prayer programmes will also be organised at BNP offices across the country.

On Tuesday, January 20, at 11:00am, a discussion meeting will be held at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, IDEB auditorium, in Kakrail, Dhaka.

Senior party leaders, along with prominent intellectuals and representatives of civil society, will speak at the meeting.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said martyred president Ziaur Rahman was the architect of modern Bangladesh and the proponent of multi-party democracy. He said the two-day programme had been taken to honour his legacy, adding that Tarique Rahman’s presence at the grave would inspire party leaders and activists.

He also said BNP’s affiliated and associate organisations at district and metropolitan levels would arrange discussions and prayer gatherings outside the capital.
