BNP announces 8-day programme marking Ziaur Rahman’s 45th death anniversary

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced an eight-day nationwide programme marking the 45th death anniversary of its founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

The programmes will be observed from May 25 to June 1, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced at a press conference held at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Monday (May 18).

Rizvi said the observances will include the publication of commemorative posters and supplements in newspapers and online platforms, alongside the wearing of black badges and the arrangement of discussion meetings by BNP and its associate bodies.

As part of the programme, party flags will be kept at half-mast and black flags hoisted at BNP offices across the country at 6:00am on May 30.

Later that day, at 11:00am, Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman will lead party leaders and activists in paying tribute at Ziaur Rahman’s grave. A special prayer session will also be held there under the initiative of the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal.

The party will additionally distribute food items and clothing among underprivileged people in different areas of the capital.

A discussion meeting organised by BNP is scheduled to be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka’s Ramna at 2:00pm on May 31.

BNP leaders said similar programmes, including discussions, prayer gatherings and relief distribution, will also be organised at district, metropolitan and grassroots levels across the country.
