BNP cabinet to blend young and experienced leaders: Major Hafiz
After achieving a single-party majority in the 13th parliamentary election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is set to form its cabinet. Regarding this, Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, member of the party's standing committee and newly elected member of parliament from the Bhola-3 constituency, has said the cabinet will be formed with a blend of young and experienced leaders.
He made these remarks on Monday afternoon, February 16, at a discussion meeting organised at Dhaka's Rawa Club on the occasion of the 42nd death anniversary of the Commander-in-Chief of the Liberation War, General (Retd) M A G Osmani.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said those who played an active role in the movements and struggles against the fascist government will find places in the cabinet. Those with no history of corruption and who enjoy the people's trust will be included.
He claimed that the most fair election in the country's history was held on February 12. He expressed gratitude to the military for their assistance in ensuring a fair election. In his words, without their support during the country's difficult times, this election could not have been fair.
He also warned that any attempt to lead the country astray would be resisted unitedly.
Hafiz further said that Tarique Rahman's visits to the residences of Nahid Islam and Shafiqur Rahman have brought a fresh breeze to the political arena. He expressed the expectation that they will play a constructive and strong role as the opposition party.
Referring to the Liberation War, this BNP leader said the history of the Liberation War has been repeatedly distorted, and the true history has not been allowed to be known. Politicians of Bangladesh were busy singing their own praises. If five battalions of the East Bengal Regiment had not revolted in March 1971, there would have been no liberation war in this country.
