BNP chairperson's adviser Abdul Quddus passes away

Professor Dr Md Abdul Quddus, a member of BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman's advisory council, has died. He breathed his last at 2:20 pm on Saturday, April 25, while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the capital after a prolonged illness . He was 76 years old.

Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP's media cell, confirmed the matter.

His first funeral prayers were held in front of the party's central office in Nayapaltan after Asr prayers on Saturday . His second and final funeral will be held in Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh after Zohr prayers on Sunday. He will then be buried in the family graveyard.

He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, and several grandchildren.


Professor Abdul Quddus was a former teacher in the Department of Ophthalmology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and a former deputy superintendent . He was a valiant freedom fighter of the 1971 Liberation War . In his political career, he was also a former president of the central committee of the Zia Parishad, a pro-BNP organisation.

BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr A Z M Zahid Hossain, and BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr F M Siddiqui have expressed deep condolences and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
