The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a new chapter in political and institutional engagement between the two parties.

The agreement was signed at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Thursday morning (June 25), according to information shared by BNP through its verified social media platform.

The MoU was signed on behalf of BNP by Humayun Kabir, the party’s Joint Secretary General for International Affairs and Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister. Representing the CPC was Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China.

Party sources described the agreement as the first formal understanding ever signed between BNP and the CPC, reflecting a growing willingness on both sides to deepen political dialogue, exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation through institutional channels.

The signing ceremony was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh.

The development comes as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman continues a high-profile visit to China aimed at expanding bilateral engagement across political, economic and strategic sectors. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, is also accompanying him on the visit.

The MoU is being viewed as a significant diplomatic and political milestone, underscoring the growing engagement between Bangladesh’s governing political leadership and China at a time when both countries are seeking to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure and regional connectivity.
