BNP focuses on dengue prevention, organisational restructuring at standing committee meeting
BNP has emphasised organisational restructuring by raising nationwide public awareness to prevent dengue and filling vacant posts at the grassroots level. Important decisions on these matters were taken at a meeting of the party's highest policy-making forum, the National Standing Committee.
BNP acting secretary general Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi briefed journalists on the meeting at a press briefing after the meeting at the BNP chairman's political office in Gulshan on Saturday night, September 12. Earlier, the National Standing Committee meeting was held around 7:15pm, presided over by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Outlining the meeting's decisions, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the meeting mainly discussed the country's dengue situation in detail. Emphasis was placed on implementing the directives given by the Prime Minister in the morning while joining with district and upazila administrations across the country to prevent dengue.
One of these is the supply of mosquito nets to all hospitals at the upazila and district levels.
He further said BNP will distribute leaflets in Dhaka city as well as across the country to prevent dengue and raise awareness among the general public. The leaflets have been prepared by specialist doctors. Additionally, the relevant authorities have been urged to place dustbins at designated places so that mosquitoes do not breed due to waste being scattered in schools, madrasas and markets.
At the same time, the party has requested Girl Guides, Scouts and various volunteer organisations and students to work on dengue awareness. Awareness campaigns will also be conducted by the party on radio, television and social media.
Regarding organisational matters, the BNP acting secretary general said many people in the party's committees at various levels have died or their posts have become vacant due to expulsion. A decision was taken to take measures to fill these vacant posts quickly through promotions in accordance with the party constitution.
