BNP holds training workshop for new MPs
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has launched a two-day training workshop for its newly elected parliamentarians ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad session.
The programme was inaugurated on Friday (March 6) at the BNP Chairman’s office in Gulshan by party chairman and former Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Additional BNP Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon confirmed that Prime Minister and BNP Chariperson Tarique Rahman attended the workshop alongside the MPs.
Senior party leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, and AZM Zahid Hossain were present at the opening, along with Tarique Rahman’s daughter, Zaima Rahman.
The workshop aims to familiarise first-time MPs with parliamentary procedures, code of conduct, bill drafting and review, budget document analysis, and committee operations.
Experienced parliamentarians will share insights and guidance with the newcomers.
On the first day, morning sessions include ministers, state ministers, and advisers, while afternoon sessions cover MPs from Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Faridpur divisions. Saturday’s schedule will focus on remaining MPs from Dhaka district, Mymensingh, Faridpur, and Dhaka divisions in the morning, and MPs from Sylhet, Cumilla, and Chattogram divisions in the afternoon.
Out of BNP’s 209 elected MPs in the 13th parliament, 146 are first-time members, highlighting the significance of the training.
Senior party sources said the workshop will provide guidance on raising points of order, participating in bill discussions, highlighting constituency issues, engaging with the President’s address, and ensuring attendance during parliamentary sessions.
