BNP, Jamaat hold separate meetings with US Assistant Secretary of State
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the oppossition party Jamaat-e-Islami held separate meetings with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Paul Kapur, on Thursday (March 5) at the US Ambassador’s residence in Gulshan.
A five-member BNP delegation, led by Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan, met with Kapoor to discuss bilateral relations, the new government’s policies, and future diplomatic engagement.
Other members included Barrister Nowshad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Naiba Yusuf, and Nipun Rai Chowdhury.
After the meeting, Abdul Moyeen Khan emphasised the longstanding US support for Bangladesh and said the discussion focused on mutual relations and broader international developments.
Separately, a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation, led by Deputy Ameer and opposition MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, also met Kapoor in a cordial session at 9:00am.
The five-member team included Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Central Executive Committee member Saiful Alam Khan, Foreign Affairs Consultant Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, and the party Ameer’s foreign affairs advisor Barrister Mir Ahmed Bin Kasem.
Both meetings highlighted discussions on bilateral ties, foreign policy perspectives, and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.
