BNP leader Aman acquitted in extortion case
The High Court (HC) has acquitted BNP Chairperson's advisor Aman Ullah Aman from in extortion case.
A HC bench, comprising of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, passed the verdict on Thursday (December 5).
On May 8, 2008, the trial court sentenced Aman to seven years in prison and a fine of one lakh taka. Aman filed an appeal against this sentence in the High Court later that year.
Senior lawyer Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, along with lawyers Nazmul Huda and Tarek Bhuiyan, advocated for the petition in court.
On March 6, 2007, Rafiqul Alam of Purba Aganagar filed a case with the South Keraniganj Police Station accusing Aman of extortion, alleging that in an incident on June 26, 2004, he took five lakh taka in two installments in 2005.
Aman was arrested in this case on March 7, 2007.
