BNP leader Hafiz Ibrahim's tin embezzlement case suspended
The Appellate Division has granted permission to appeal a High Court ruling in a case involving BNP leader and former lawmaker Hafiz Ibrahim, who is accused of embezzling relief tins. The court also ordered the suspension of case proceedings until the appeal is decided.
The order was passed by the Appellate Division bench, headed by Justice Mohammad Ashfaqul Islam, on Sunday.
On June 13, 2007, joint forces recovered 100 bundles of relief tins from Hafiz Uddin Ibrahim College, located in Moniram Bazar of Tobogi Union in Burhanuddin Upazila, Barishal District. On the same day, the project implementation officer of Burhanuddin filed a case against two individuals with Burhanuddin Police Station. Following an investigation, the Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Ram Mohon Nath, submitted a charge sheet on January 18, 2009.
While the case was at the witness collection stage, Hafiz Ibrahim filed a petition in the High Court on October 1, 2013, requesting the dismissal of the charges against him.
After a preliminary hearing, the High Court issued a rule and suspended the proceedings. However, after considering the rule, the High Court dismissed it on November 11, 2018. Following this, Hafiz Ibrahim filed for leave to appeal in the Appellate Division.
