BNP never agreed to constitutional reform council: Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the BNP has never supported the formation of a constitutional reform council or the establishment of an upper house under a proportional representation (PR) system by those elected in the 13th national parliamentary election.
He made the remarks while addressing a memorial meeting for former Zia Parishad Chairman Dr. Md. Abdul Quddus at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University auditorium in the capital on Saturday morning (May 2).
Regarding reforms, Mirza Fakhrul further said, 'BNP is the father of reforms, the aim of the current movement that Jamaat is carrying out in the name of reforms is to destabilize the country. Everyone has to work together to move the country forward.'
Expressing concern about irregularities and corruption, Mirza Fakhrul said, 'The fascist Awami League has created a society that has lost ethics, and the Hasina government has destroyed the country's economy. The more I enter the government, the more I am terrified, wherever I look, there are irregularities, corruption and nepotism. Nothing is happening anywhere without lobbying. Such a situation has arisen in the last 15 years.'
