BNP regrets Kanak Chapa incident, promises action against perpetrators
Singer Kanak Chapa faced obstruction on Saturday while collecting nomination forms for parliament's reserved women's seats, leading to a major uproar. The BNP has expressed regret over the incident.
At the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on Sunday, April 12, the party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said organisational action would be taken against those who misbehaved with her.
Rizvi also informed that over the past two days, 1,072 nomination forms have been sold and 300 submitted for the reserved women's seats of the 13th National Parliament. The party will nominate those who have contributed to past movements and struggles and have been involved in BNP politics. He said priority will be given to female workers who were shot during movements, are dedicated, well-educated, and talented. He also noted that talented artists and cultural figures have also received nominations.
