BNP sees July Charter in a positive light: Rizvi
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) views the upcoming July Charter, scheduled to be signed on October 15, in a positive light, said the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Expressing optimism, Rizvi said he believes that political parties can reach a consensus on the charter through dialogue before the scheduled time.
He made the remarks on Friday morning while speaking to reporters at Chandrima Udyan in Dhaka, after placing a wreath and offering Fatiha at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman on behalf of the newly formed committee of the Agriculturist Association of Bangladesh (AAB).
“If we believe in democracy, it is possible to reach a logical solution through discussions. We are hopeful that a positive political understanding will be achieved regarding the July Charter,” Rizvi said.
Rizvi also commented on BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s recent interview with international media, noting that the remarks reflected a message of unity rather than political bias.
“After 17 years, Tarique Rahman spoke to the international media. His statement was not partisan. He did not wish harm upon political opponents; instead, he called for unity and lawful justice for those involved in crimes or oppression,” he said.
The BNP spokesperson added that Tarique Rahman’s statement has been well received by civil society, professional groups, and the general public, as it focused on the need for national unity.
Turning to the agriculture sector, Rizvi said special attention has been given to agricultural development among the 31 points announced by Tarique Rahman.
“Farmers are not getting fair prices for their produce. The Agriculturist Association of Bangladesh must play an effective role in addressing this issue,” he said, adding that the AAB will soon formulate policies to protect farmers’ interests and ensure national benefit.
“This direction and inspiration came directly from our party’s Acting Chairman,” he added.
AAB Convener Agriculturist Kamruzzaman and Member Secretary Agriculturist Shahadat Hossain Biplob were also present at the event.
