BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said the party has taken organisational measures against rebel candidates and, in many cases, has tried to resolve the issue through dialogue.

Speaking to reporters at the party’s Gulshan office on Thursday (January 8), Salahuddin said that as a large political party, BNP has many aspiring candidates, and not all of them receive nominations according to their expectations.

“In the greater interest of ensuring broader representation in parliament, many capable candidates have been left out. Naturally, some have grievances. We have taken organisational steps in certain cases and tried to calm the situation through discussion in others,” he said.

The senior BNP leader expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved soon.

Salahuddin also said there would be no violation of the election code of conduct during Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to the northern region.

He said paying tribute to martyrs and visiting their graves reflect the nation’s expectations. “We uphold the spirit of the martyrs of the mass uprising. Highlighting that spirit is the purpose of the visit. There is no question of violating the election code of conduct,” he added.
