BNP to fully support govt in February election: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will extend full cooperation to the government in the upcoming national elections scheduled for February.
Speaking to reporters on Monday after paying tribute at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of BNP’s 47th founding anniversary, Fakhrul said the party remains committed to the democratic process despite repeated attempts to suppress it.
“BNP has risen time and again under the steadfast leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia,” he said. “This day is not only significant for our party but for the entire nation. It was Ziaur Rahman who transitioned the country from one-party rule to a multi-party democracy.”
Highlighting the party’s core ideology, Fakhrul said Bangladeshi nationalism has brought transformative changes to the nation’s political landscape. “Despite relentless efforts to destroy the BNP, the party has emerged stronger—like a phoenix rising from the ashes. The people and the student movement have freed the country from the grip of fascism,” he added.
Expressing hope for a free and fair election, Fakhrul reiterated BNP’s intention to cooperate in ensuring a credible electoral process in February.
Looking ahead, the BNP leader said that if the party is elected to power, it will bring about substantial political and economic reforms under the leadership of Tarique Rahman. “We aim to guide the country toward prosperity and fundamental political change by implementing our 31-point reform agenda,” he said.
