The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has decided to remove all political banners and posters from the capital and across the country within three days, following instructions from party acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

However, banners and posters commemorating the late party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s mourning will remain temporarily.

On Friday morning (January 2), BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi held a meeting at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan with top leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units, as well as the Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal. Following the meeting, Rizvi inaugurated the campaign to remove banners and posters.

Leaders present included Dhaka North convener Aminul Haque, secretary Mostafa Zaman, Dhaka South secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, Jubo Dal president Monayem Munna, organisational secretary Kamruzzaman Jewel, Swechchhasebak Dal president SM Jilani, vice-president Dr. Jahedul Kabir Zahid, and Chhatra Dal leaders Raju Ahmed and Dr. Towhidur Rahman Awal.

Rizvi said, “While banners and posters are a form of political expression, they are affecting the city’s aesthetics. Acting on our chairman’s instructions, BNP units are removing them on a voluntary basis. Mourning banners for Khaleda Zia may remain for a few more days.”

He added, “Responsibilities have been divided. Once any programme concludes, its banners and posters should be removed by the respective unit. This campaign has started in Dhaka and will continue nationwide.”
