BNP to sell nomination forms for Thakurgaon-1 by-election on Sept 15
The BNP will begin selling nomination forms on September 15 to select its candidate for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, with prospective candidates to submit their forms the following day and face interviews before the party’s nomination board on September 18.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the BNP Standing Committee at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Saturday night (September 12), Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters after the meeting.
Interested candidates can collect nomination forms from the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on September 15 and submit them on September 16. Interviews will be held at the Gulshan office on September 18, Rizvi said.
The Thakurgaon-1 seat fell vacant after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president. The by-election is scheduled for October 29.
The meeting, chaired by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, also decided to fill vacant posts in various party committees in line with the party constitution.
The leaders also discussed the dengue situation and decided to distribute awareness leaflets across Dhaka and elsewhere. The campaign will include materials prepared under the guidance of medical experts as well as awareness programmes on television and radio.
The party will also conduct awareness campaigns at schools, colleges, madrasas and marketplaces to encourage people to dispose of waste at designated locations, Rizvi said.
