BNP will contest election under Tarique Rahman’s leadership: Amir Khasru
BNP will contest the 13th national election under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, said standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. He also stated that preparations are underway for Tarique Rahman’s return to the country soon.
Speaking to reporters on contemporary issues at a hotel in Banani on Saturday, December 6, Amir Khasru said, “Tarique Rahman will return very soon. He will lead the election. Whether Dr Zubaida will join politics is entirely her personal decision.” He added that the coalition’s candidate nomination will also be announced soon.
Meanwhile, the process of taking BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia abroad has been delayed again. Her private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar said that it is not yet possible to specify the date for London travel, adding that she may be taken any day once the air ambulance arrives.
BNP’s medical team said there has been no major change in Khaleda Zia’s health condition over the past few days. The decision will be taken based on her suitability for flying. Another source said that the new air ambulance arranged under Qatar’s supervision has been rescheduled from December 6 to December 9 and may depart Bangladesh on December 10.
Earlier, the scheduled flight was postponed due to technical faults in the air ambulance. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also said that the departure depends solely on Khaleda Zia’s physical condition.
The 79-year-old former prime minister has long been suffering from liver cirrhosis, heart disease, lung complications, kidney issues, eye problems and diabetes. She has been undergoing treatment at the critical care unit of Evercare Hospital since her admission on November 23. Due to her severe condition, foreign experts are also involved in her treatment alongside local physicians.
