BNP's presidential candidate not finalised yet: Chief Whip
The ruling BNP has not yet made an official decision on who will be nominated as its candidate for the 23rd presidential election, said Chief Whip and BNP Vice-Chairman Nurul Islam Moni.
He made the remarks at a press conference on the presidential election at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, August 11.
Nurul Islam Moni said discussions are ongoing within the party and at the Standing Committee level regarding the presidential election. However, several more rounds of discussions with the party's top leadership and policymakers will be held before finalising the candidate.
He said an appropriate candidate's name will be announced in due time, following democratic processes.
When asked what kind of person might be nominated for the presidency, the BNP Vice-Chairman said the party always evaluates capable and widely acceptable individuals.
He further said the party will nominate someone for the highest office who can rise above partisan politics and serve in the interest of the country and its people. The final decision will be guided by the party chairman's directive.
