Boat capsizes in Padma, BSF rescues 10 Bangladeshis

A boat has capsized in the Padma River in Narayanpur union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. The incident occurred around 5:30pm on Saturday, September 12. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) rescued 10 people. The BGB said efforts are underway to bring them back to the country by night.

Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Md Nazir Hossain confirmed the matter. He said a group of 11 or 12 people was coming from Bakharali Ghat in Sadar upazila by a dinghy boat towards Jahorpur camp and Ward No. 08 of the union. At that time, the dinghy boat capsized. Later, one person was rescued by swimming. The remaining 10 or 11 people drifted into the Indian border area, and members of the BSF's Khandaha camp rescued them. He said he heard they are now in the custody of the Indian BSF. It was also learned that there were women, men and children on the boat.

Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, commander of the Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB), said members of the BSF's Khandaha camp rescued 10 people in the boat capsize incident in the Padma River. "We have contacted them. Efforts are underway to bring them back by night," he said.
