Body of Bangladeshi expat killed in Bahrain arrives in Dhaka
The body of Bangladeshi expatriate Girish Chandra Sutradhar, who was killed in recent Middle East tensions in Bahrain, was repatriated and handed over to his family on Wednesday morning (April 15).
The Emirates Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 8:30am.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir received the body at the airport and later handed it over to the deceased’s younger brother, Naresh Sutradhar.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment were also present during repatriation.
The minister announced an immediate financial assistance of Tk 35,000 for burial arrangements, adding that an additional Tk 3 lakh will be provided to the family upon completion of required inheritance documentation.
"The government is giving highest priority to the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates," he said, urging overseas job seekers to register with the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) before going abroad to ensure access to government support when needed.
Girish Chandra Sutradhar, a resident of East Mashpara in Sylhet Sadar upazila, was reportedly killed while working in Bahrain after being struck by debris from a missile attack.
