Body of Bangladeshi killed in Saudi missile attack arrives home
The body of Abdullah Al Mamun, a Bangladeshi worker who died in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia, arrived in Dhaka.
A Saudi Airlines flight SV806, carrying Mamun's body, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:15am on Monday (April 6).
The Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and State Minister Md. Nurul Haque recieved the body at the airport.
Mamun’s family members were also present there during the repatriation process.
The minister stated that seven Bangladeshis have so far been reported dead in the Middle East conflict. Of them, four bodies have been repatriated, while one was buried in Saudi Arabia with the family’s consent.
Mamun, a resident of Rasulpur village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh, was severely burned when a missile fired from Iran struck Al-Kharj in Saudi Arabia on March 8. He suffered burns over nearly 90 per cent of his body and later died while undergoing treatment in Riyadh.
Among the others, Mokhtar Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare; Asad Alam Siam, secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dewan Ali Ashraf, director general (Consular and Welfare) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and ATM Mahbub-ul Karim, acting director general of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board were present there.
