Body of Bangladeshi PhD student Limon arrives in Dhaka
The body of Zamil Ahmed Limon, one of the Bangladeshi PhD students killed in the United States, arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning (May 4).
An Emirates flight carriying Limon's remain landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:40am, officials confirmed.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed handed over the body to Limon’s family members at the airport.
Speaking to reporters, she said the government is in contact with US authorities to ensure a proper investigation and justice in the case, adding that efforts are underway to bring back the body of the other victim, Nahida Sultana Bristy.
From the airport, Limon’s body is being taken to his ancestral home in Mahishbathan village under Korai Chhara union of Madarganj upazila in Jamalpur, where he will be laid to rest after Maghrib prayers, according to family members.
Preparations for the funeral have been completed, with a sombre atmosphere prevailing in the area as residents gather to pay their last respects.
Limon was a PhD student in geography, environment and policy at the University of South Florida. He and his fellow student Bristy had been missing since April 16. About 10 days later, on April 24, Limon’s body was recovered by local police, while parts of Bristy’s body were found in a water body in Florida on Sunday.
In connection with the killings, Florida police have arrested Limon’s roommate, 24-year-old Hisham Saleh Abugharbeh. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, and remains in police custody.
