Body of Bangladeshi worker killed in Iraq missile attack returned home
The body of Bangladeshi expatriate worker Mohammad Shraban, who was killed in a missile attack in Iraq, was brought back to Bangladesh under government arrangements on Friday (May 29).
The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:15am aboard a Turkish Airlines flight, where it was formally received by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed.
Mohammad Shraban, a resident of Bakultala village in Munshiganj Sadar upazila, was the son of Mohammad Noli Mia. He had travelled to Baghdad around 10 years ago in search of employment opportunities. He was recently killed in a missile strike in the Iraqi capital.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the state minister Shama Obaed conveyed condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the government.
After completing airport formalities, the body was handed over to the victim’s family members. The government also provided financial assistance of Tk 35,000 to support funeral and burial expenses.
Officials said the repatriation process was coordinated under the supervision of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Baghdad. The embassy’s First Secretary (Labour), Parvez Alam Chowdhury, had officially confirmed the transfer arrangements on May 25.
The body departed Baghdad on May 27 aboard flight TK0843 and, after a 29-hour transit in Turkey, arrived in Dhaka on flight TK0712 early Friday.
