DU student's hanging body recovered
Police recovered the hanging body of a Dhaka University (DU) student from a house on Free School Street in Hatirpul, under Kalabagan Police Station.
Pilak Ranjan Sarkar, 24, was a master's student in the Drawing and Painting department at DU.
The body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital for autopsy around 1am on Monday (April 21).
Kalabagan Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Iqbal Hossain confirmed the incident.
He stated, "After receiving the information, we recovered the body of the young man hanging from a ceiling fan with a gamchha (traditional towel) tied around his neck in a flat on the 9th floor of house no. 387/5 on Free School Street in Hatirpul. After completing legal procedures, the body was sent to DMC morgue for autopsy."
Pilak’s roommate Zahid Hasan told Views Bangladesh, "When I returned home after evening, I noticed no response from him—his room door was locked from inside. After calling 999, police arrived and broke the door to recover the body."
He added, "Pilak Ranjan had been suffering from depression for the past month."
