Body of DU student recovered, teacher and fellow student in police custody

Police have recovered the body of Munira Mahjabin Mimo, a student of Dhaka University and theatre activist. The body was found hanging from a ceiling fan after breaking down the door of her residence in the capital's Badda area on Sunday, April 26.

A suicide note was recovered from beside Mimo's body. Based on information found in the note and preliminary investigation, a teacher and a fellow student have been taken into custody for questioning.

Mimo was a Master's student of the 2019-20 academic year in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University .

Police said the recovered note contained names of individuals and references to financial transactions.

Gulshan Zone (Badda) Additional Deputy Commissioner Jewel said the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The body will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination.

Department Chairperson Kazi Tamanna Haque Sigma said teachers rushed to the spot after learning of the incident. Police took the teacher for questioning after analysis of the victim's mobile phone indicated communication between them.

The authorities said an investigation is ongoing.
