BPC issues special fuel directive for ride-sharing motorcycles

The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has issued special instructions for motorcycles engaged in ride-sharing services to maintain normal fuel oil supply in the country and alleviate public panic. Through a press release on Tuesday, March 10, the organisation announced that ride-sharing motorcycles can now receive a maximum of 5 litres of octane or petrol per day.

BPC said fuel oil is being regularly imported from abroad according to schedule and is being supplied across the country through railway wagons and tankers from major installations. A daily limit of maximum 5 litres of octane or petrol has been set for motorcycles engaged in ride-sharing services. However, when collecting fuel, a purchase receipt mentioning the type, quantity and price of fuel must be obtained from the filling station, and the original copy of the previous receipt must be submitted when collecting fuel next time.

Additionally, the organisation has issued strict instructions to ensure this fuel supply only after verifying the motorcycle's registration number and driver's information with the ride-sharing app.

Earlier last Friday, BPC had set general limits for selling fuel oil at the consumer level. According to that directive, private motorcycles can collect a maximum of 2 litres, private cars 10 litres, and SUVs, jeeps and microbuses 20 to 25 litres of octane or petrol. For diesel-run vehicles, limits of 70 to 80 litres for pickups and local buses, and 200 to 220 litres for long-distance buses, trucks and covered vans remain in effect.
