Bristy laid to rest beside grandparents' graves in Madaripur
Nahida Sultana Bristy, the talented Bangladeshi student who went to the United States to pursue higher education, did not return alive. She was killed in the US over a trivial incident. Her mutilated body arrived at her family home in Madaripur on Saturday, May 9, casting a pall of mourning over the entire area. After the funeral prayers, she was buried beside her grandparents' graves.
Bristy's body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday morning. It was then taken to her ancestral home in Char Govindpur village under Madaripur Sadar upazila. Relatives, neighbours and childhood friends gathered to catch a final glimpse of the only daughter of the family, creating a heartbreaking atmosphere.
The family and locals alleged that Bristy and her fellow student Zamil Ahmed Limon were abducted and killed on April 16 following a dispute between their US citizen roommate and Limon. On April 30, US police recovered Bristy's mutilated body.
The victim's cousin, Zabin Mariam, said, "We cannot accept the brutal death of the girl who was always cheerful. We demand justice for this murder."
Bristy's father, Zahir Uddin Akon, said with a tearful voice, "My daughter went abroad with dreams. I never imagined she would return as a corpse. We demand justice."
After the funeral prayers, she was laid to rest beside her grandparents in the family graveyard. Bristy's unfinished life, built on dreams of studying abroad, has now become a story of grief and demands for justice.
