Broiler chicken price rises by Tk 30 per kg in a week
The price of broiler chicken has increased again in the capital's markets. Within just one week, the price per kg has risen by Tk 20 to Tk 30, with broiler chicken now selling at Tk 180 to Tk 190 per kg. At the same time, the prices of most fish, including shrimp, remain high, offering little relief to consumers. However, the beef and egg markets have not seen significant changes.
This picture emerged after visiting various kitchen markets in the capital on Friday, July 3.
Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 180-190 per kg, while Sonali chicken is priced at Tk 340 per kg. Eggs are being sold at Tk 100-110 per dozen. The price of beef remains unchanged at Tk 800 per kg.
Chicken sellers said the price of broiler has risen due to a decrease in supply. Rayarbazar seller Md Sohel said the price of broiler depends on supply. Today, due to lower supply, the price has increased by Tk 20 to Tk 30 per kg compared to last week.
Fish prices are also high. Rohu is selling at Tk 300-400, Katla at Tk 230-500, Bhetki at Tk 400-550, Pabda at Tk 350-400, Tengra at Tk 500-700 and Taki at Tk 250-350 per kg. Tilapia is selling at Tk 120-160, Pangas at Tk 200-220, Mrigel at Tk 250-300, Koi at Tk 400-500, Shing at Tk 400 and Shol fish at Tk 700 per kg.
Shrimp prices have also increased, ranging from Tk 550 to Tk 900 per kg depending on size and variety, with larger shrimp selling at Tk 800 to Tk 1,200.
Consumers have complained that it has become difficult to find good quality fish under Tk 200. Md Rafiqul Islam, a resident of Dhanmondi, said while farmed fish prices are somewhat lower, marine fish are becoming out of reach for ordinary people.
Fish sellers, on the other hand, claim that shrimp prices are higher due to lower supply. Fish prices in the market may decrease somewhat if the supply of river fish increases during the monsoon season.
