BSF-BGB DG-level border coordination conference held in New Delhi
The 57th Director General-level Border Coordination Conference between India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held at the BSF Headquarters in New Delhi from June 8 to 11, 2026, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to enhanced border management and cooperation.
The Indian delegation was led by BSF Director General Shri Praveen Kumar, IPS, while the Bangladesh side was headed by BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
The development was confirmed through a BGB-BSF joint press release on Thursday (June 11).
The four-day conference was conducted in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting what both sides described as enduring cooperation and mutual trust between the two border guarding forces.
As the highest bilateral mechanism between BSF and BGB, the meeting reviewed the prevailing border situation and discussed a wide range of security and management issues, including: Prevention of trans-border crimes such as smuggling of narcotics, arms, counterfeit currency, gold, and other contraband; Illegal border crossings and human trafficking; Border deaths and incidents of illegal, inadvertent, or forced crossings; Border infrastructure development and implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan; Confidence-building measures and enhanced operational coordination.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and tranquility along the India–Bangladesh border. They agreed to strengthen coordinated patrols, improve real-time information sharing, and intensify joint efforts against transnational criminal networks.
The delegations also emphasized sensitizing border populations about boundary sanctity and raising public awareness to discourage illegal activities in border areas.
Both forces reaffirmed a policy of zero tolerance towards cross-border crimes, insurgent activities, and any actions that threaten border security.
The conference concluded with the signing of the Joint Record of Discussions on June 11, 2026. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the outcomes and confidence that the decisions taken will further enhance bilateral cooperation and contribute to more effective border management.
The next DG-level conference is proposed to be held in Dhaka in November 2026 at a mutually convenient date.
