BTV set to change logo

Bangladesh Television (BTV) is set to change its logo, which carries the memories and contributions of some of the country’s most renowned artists.

The state-run broadcaster has already published an advertisement regarding the move on its verified Facebook page.

A video advertisement posted on BTV’s Facebook page on Sunday night said, “BTV is returning in a new look. You too can become a proud partner in creating the new Bangladesh Television logo. Send your idea or logo design to logo@btv.gov.bd. The deadline for submissions is September 10, 2026.”

BTV began its journey on December 25, 1964, before the birth of Bangladesh. At the time, however, it was not known as BTV. The television service was launched as a pilot project at the then DIT building in Dhaka, now the Rajuk Bhaban. It was initially a branch of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).

After independence, the channel was transformed into the state television service through a presidential order in 1972 and was renamed Bangladesh Television (BTV).

The logo was designed by artist Imdad Hossain, with renowned artists Kamrul Hasan and Mustafa Monwar, as well as art designer Mahiuddin Faruk, also playing roles in its development.

The BTV logo was designed to depict a rising red sun welcoming viewers on a television screen framed in green. The logo went on to become a symbol of Bangladesh’s red-and-green identity.

Asked about the decision to change the logo, BTV Director General Kazi Jesin said, “BTV is still operating in the old style. We are trying to modernise BTV. We want to modernise every level of the organisation, from its organogram and artists’ remuneration to news presentation. Changing the logo is part of the changes needed in this modernisation process.”

Asked how necessary it was to change a logo that has become a symbol of Bangladesh’s red-and-green identity and has a place in the hearts of millions of people, Kazi Jesin said, “We want to preserve our history and heritage. We also want to preserve the contributions of our renowned artists. If people do not want it, the logo will not be changed. However, whatever changes we make, they will be introduced while preserving our history and heritage. The changes will be made based on the opinions of artists and experts.”
