BUET students hold midnight protest against insults to engineers
BUET students have staged a protest demanding action against those who insulted engineers nationwide by calling them "scoundrels."
As part of the protest, a procession was held in front of the Raju Sculpture at Dhaka University around midnight on Wednesday (August 20).
The protesters stated, "We have been labeled as 'scoundrels,' but those making such remarks are not real engineers. Only individuals with a B.Sc degree have the right to identify themselves as engineers."
They further warned that if the accused do not issue a public apology, a movement will be launched against diploma engineers at universities nationwide.
The protesters claimed that the seven-point demands of the diploma engineers are completely unreasonable and that they are attempting to gain unfair advantages through the quota system.
A student said, “While B.Sc engineers are deemed ineligible for 10th-grade application, a diploma quota has been created, restricting our job opportunities through illegal promotions.”
Just as the mass uprising of ’24’ opposed discrimination, we will reject any quota system in the engineering sector, they said.
They also urged students from all engineering universities nationwide to unite in support of merit-based positions.
