Building catches fire on Bailey Road

A fire has broken out at a restaurant in the capital's Bailey Road.

Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell, confirmed the inferno.

He said the fire originated at ‘Kacchi Bhai Restaurant’ on Bailey Road at 8: 50pm.

Being informed, eight firefighting units from several stations rushed to the spot and were trying to bring the flame under control, he added.

Two more units have joinedd since then.

The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, the FSCD officer said, adding that details on this matter will be shared later.

According to media reports, several people are trapped on the rooftop of the building.

People stuck on the rooftop of the building are calling for firefighters to rescue them.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman and IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun have reached the spot. IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun is overseeing the firefighting activities. Police also have joined firefighters. The road has been blocked from Officer's Club to Shantinagar intersection. Firefighters are still working to douse the blaze.
